Correction of rotational deformities in long bones using guided growth - a scoping review

New Publication in EFORT Open Reviews

Guided growth is a promising technique for correcting rotational deformities in children's limbs. However, the current literature on this topic is heterogeneous and inconsistent.

We conducted a scoping review to identify and summarize the existing evidence on the surgical methods, outcomes, and complications of guided growth for rotational deformities.

We found that various techniques have been tested in animal models and human patients, but there is no standard way of measuring and reporting the results. Therefore, we recommend more rigorous and uniform studies to evaluate the safety and efficacy of guided growth for this indication, before widespread clinical implementation.
